The Hometown of Chinese Calligraphy - Longwan

The Lonwan of Wenzhou, whose talents come forth in large numbers, has a profound cultural heritage and a long history of calligraphy. Jiang Ligang, a great calligrapher in the Ming Dynasty, was from Dongxi Village, HaichengTown, Longwan. The calligraphers Zhang Cong, Wang Shugao, and Wang Shuguo in the Ming Dynasty, Zhang Zhenkui in the Qing Dynasty, and Xia Chengtao and Zhang Rongnian in the Republic of China all had extremely high attainments in calligraphy. He Jun, a contemporary calligrapher, who inherit the Longwan’s calligraphy tradition, is famous for his distinctive calligraphy style -“majestic and elegant, healthy and beautiful”. In 2013, Longwan District was awarded the title of "Hometown of Chinese Calligraphy".
