Wenzhou suspends sales of imported salmon!

​From 0:00 to 24:00 on June 13, there were 36 newly COVID-19 confirmed cases in Beijing, including 27 workers in the Xinfadi wet market and 9 cases who were directly or indirectly exposed to the workers in the wet market.


From 0:00 to 07:00 on June 14, 8 newly COVID-19 confirmed cases were added in Beijing, all of which were related to the the Xinfadi wet market.  Newly COVID-19 confirmed cases occurred in Beijing for 2 consecutive days, and the virus was detected from the cutting board of imported salmon in the Xinfadi wet market.Major supermarkets in Beijing as Wumart and Carrefour have removed all salmon overnight.

From June 13, the Wenzhou Municipal Market Supervision Bureau launched an urgently and thoroughly special inspection action on imported salmon and other key foods. The market supervision department requires all farmers' markets, agricultural products wholesale markets, and all salmon product business units and individuals in Wenzhou to suspend the processing and sales of salmon, and effectively strengthen various measures on food safety supervision for ensuring that any risk can be prevented. In addition to requiring the farmers’ markets and food production & operation units to suspend the sales of imported salmon, the Lucheng Supervision Bureau also informed the catering operation units to suspend the supply of various raw meals.


After learning that the COVID-19 virus was detected from the cutting board of imported salmon in the Beijing Xinfadi wet market, the operators took the initiative to remove all salmon from the shelves. The law enforcement personnel from the market supervision department also required each operating unit to strictly implement the requirements, disinfect the tools such as knives and cutting boards, operating environment and ground for preventing hidden risks.

According to the statistics, there are 3 agricultural products wholesale markets (14 operating households), 38 farmer's markets (79 operating households), and 19 supermarkets selling salmon products in Wenzhou. The main source of the salmon sold in the Wenzhou market is the Shanghai Jiangyang market. The origin is mainly in countries such as Denmark, Norway, Chile and the Faroe Islands. The inspection and quarantine certificates are complete when the goods are imported. Their main supply range is Wenzhou, and have no business in Beijing.
