After initiated the first-level response to public health emergency on January 23, Zhejiang province was the first one across the whole country to temporarily close all venues for religious activities and folk beliefs.
Over the next 4 months, the religious circles and worshipers in Zhejiang have actively cooperated with the COVID-19 prevention work, suspended the opening of religious venues, put all collective religious activities on hold, and effectively prevented the occurrence of concentrated infections in the religious field.
In view of the fact that Zhejiang province has been a low-risk area for a long time, according to the relevant guidance of the Joint Prevention and Control Mechanism of the State Council, the religious venues in Zhejiang began to reopen orderly from June 2. The 3 major Buddhist temples in Putuo Mountain and the Lingyin Temple in Hangzhou have reopened. However, the opening hours of different monasteries should be staggered, and a risk assessment is required in advance. Specifically, the religious venue submit the application, and local township(street) verify the application, then administrative department approve it. After going through the whole process, then the religious venue is permitted to reopen.

After the opening of religious venues, in order to avoid excessive gathering, they will adopt the methods such as activity-appointment, limitation on the number of worshipers and so on, implement "health code + temperature measurement" access management, and require everyone to wear a mask. People in Christian churches, Catholic churches and Islamic mosques should be worshiped in separate or distanced places. It should be noted that large-scale religious activities and cross-regional religious activities are still suspended. The COVID-19 outbreak has still not passed, we must not relax our vigilance. Folk belief venues will also be treated as same as religious venues and will reopen orderly.
