The global coronavirus outbreak escalates with the number of confirmed cases continuing to increase in Italy, Iran, and South Korea.
The number of newly added cases in Italy has reached 1,797 in one day, and the cumulative cases has exceeded 9,000. On March 9 local time, WHO released the latest daily report on the situation of the COVID-19. As of 10:00 Central European Time on March 9th (17:00 Beijing time), a total of 28,674 cases have been confirmed in 104 countries / territories / regions outside China (with 3,949 newly added cases). And the death cases reach 686 (with 202 newly added cases).


Italy:  1,797 cases are added in one day

As of now, 9,172 cases have been confirmed in Italy with an increase of 1,797 cases from the previous day. The Italian Prime Minister announced on the evening of the 9th that a lockdown measure will be implemented from the 10th and the school suspension will be extended to April 3. The lockdown measure announced in the early hours of March 8 will be extended nationwide. All residents are not allowed to enter or leave the cities at random (except for work, emergencies, or medical conditions). And a self-presentation statement are required as residents ask for entering or leaving the cities. At the same time, all sports events are suspended nationwide.

Iran: The accumulative confirmed cases reaches 7,161   
70,000  prisoners were approved for release

As of the 9th local time, 595 new cases and 43 new death cases were added on the same day in Iran. A total of 7,161 cases were confirmed and 237 died. On the 9th, the Iranian Army announced that it would prepare to build temporary hospitals across the country to prevent the spread of the virus. 

Affected by the COVID-19, Iran's Attorney General Ibrahim Lacey stated at the high judicial council on Monday that 70,000 eligible prisoners have been granted temporary release. He said that prisoners with potential illnesses would be given priority.
