WenzhouDaily’s hit show “Foreigner’s Spotlight” invited Walaa from Bahrain to experience the movable-type printing.

The movable-type printing is one of the "Four Great Inventions" in ancient China. It is a printing method working in such a way that the word blocks are singled out and arranged on the slate in correct sequence. Then the printing ink are applied onto the word blocks and the characters get printed out immediately. It greatly improved printing efficiency and has played a great role in the spread of culture by replacing the traditional hand-copying.

WenzhouDaily’s hit show  “Foreigner’s Spotlight” invited Walaa from Bahrain to experience the movable-type printing museum together and to explore the charm of this printing method.

Walaa, an international student from Bahrain, is currently studying dentistry at Wenzhou Medical University. She said though she has lived in Wenzhou for five years, she has never had a good chance to learn about Wenzhou and to experience its traditional culture. She was very excited to have the opportunity to experience the Chinese ancient movable-type printing.

During the filming process, Walaa printed out the poem "Plum Blossom", one of poetry of Northern Song Dynasty. As she was asked the reason she chose this ancient poem written by Wang Anshi, Walaa said she likes plum blossoms so much that even memorized this poem. She looked forward to having more opportunities to participate in “Foreigners’ Spotlight” programs and to learn the traditional cultures , the local conditions and customs of Wenzhou and China.
