Mingshan village was established in the Eastern Jin Dynasty (317-420). With a 1700-year history, Mingshan village which was Mingshan township before the liberation in 1949, is now located to the north of Kunming Town, 1 kilometer from the Pingyang County. Mingshan village consists of the Mingshan natural village and the Mingyi natural village.

Mingshan village has a beautiful landscape with water in the front and the mountains at the back. Moreover, there is the Fuhu Mountain and three springs under the mountain, Shima Spring, Tuanyuan Spring and Bailong Spring. The spring water is warm in winter and cool in summer. There are eight well-preserved ancient houses, four a-hundred-year old Banyan trees, as well as such protected sites of cultural relics and protected points of cultural relics as Cai Bisheng Memorial, the No.1 scholar in the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), Xu Yi Ancestral Temple, Dongyue Temple, the tombs of Chen Xuan and Ma Jun, the Yunnan Chief Secretaries of the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911).
